Ever wonder when Easter baskets and Easter eggs began.  You might be surprised to learn that the tradition dates back to the 13th-14th century when baskets were lined with linen and sprigs of boxwood, the Easter evergreen.  Baskets contained Easter food samples and brought to the church to be blessed on Holy Saturday.

The mention of Easter eggs started in the 18th century in Lancashire, England.  The eggs were given as presents or used for egg plays symbolizing the rolling away of the stone from Jesus’ tomb.

So, when you think about Easter Baskets and Easter Eggs the traditions are rooted in Christianity and celebrated around the world.

Happy Easter.
